Where AI helps in the delivery cycle
The gains are uneven across the lifecycle. Assistants are strong at boilerplate, scaffolding, test generation, migration scripts, refactoring repetitive code, explaining unfamiliar modules and drafting documentation. They are weaker at architecture, ambiguous requirements and subtle domain rules, which is where senior engineers still spend their attention. Prompt and context habits matter too; engineers give assistants clear specifications and existing code conventions to follow.
We apply AI where output is cheap to verify. Generated tests are run, generated queries are inspected, generated UI is reviewed in a browser. Time saved on routine work is reinvested in design discussion, edge cases and demos, which is how a project ends sooner without becoming sloppier. Routine tasks that once consumed days, such as writing fixtures or migrating an API version, now move noticeably quicker.
