How analytics and AI help
Smart meters generate interval readings by the million. Pipelines for ingesting, validating and estimating missing reads feed billing, theft detection, load profiling and customer insights. Time-series stores and stream processing make this practical, and data quality rules matter because wrong reads become wrong bills. Smart-meter and sensor data also supports new tariffs and customer programs, but only if identities, locations and time stamps are accurate and consistently handled.
Forecasting is the most mature AI use: demand, solar and wind output, prices and equipment loading. Predictive maintenance for transformers and pumps, vegetation and defect detection from drone imagery, and outage prediction all use similar methods. Models must be validated against real weather and network conditions, and operators need to understand why a forecast changed. We keep model outputs advisory unless operators explicitly approve automation, since an incorrect dispatch or switching suggestion carries real physical and financial consequences.
