Fit check

Is IT Strategy Consulting right for you?

An honest view. If another model suits you better, we will tell you on the first call.

A good fit when

  • You face a technology decision with real money behind it
  • You lack senior technical leadership in-house
  • You want an independent view of architecture, cost or vendors
  • You need a plan your board and engineers can both follow

Think twice when

  • You already have a settled plan and only need hands
  • You want slide decks without follow-through
  • The decision has already been made elsewhere
  • There is no sponsor to act on recommendations
About IT Strategy Consulting

How IT Strategy Consulting works in practice

IT strategy consulting connects technology spending to business goals through a practical roadmap, vendor choices and an operating model that people can actually follow. This page explains what goes into an IT strategy, how to evaluate vendors and platforms fairly, and how to avoid a document that no one reads, written for executives and IT heads.

What a useful IT strategy contains

Start with the business: growth plans, customer promises, regulatory duties and cost pressure. From that, derive capabilities the technology must provide, then compare them with what you have. The gap becomes a prioritized roadmap, with each initiative linked to an outcome, an owner, a rough cost range and the dependencies that could delay it. Without that link, strategy is a wish list.

Keep the strategy short. Ten pages that executives read beat a hundred that sit in a drive. Include an application inventory, a view of data and integration, security and resilience priorities, a view on build versus buy, and the main risks. Review it every quarter, because a strategy that never changes has probably stopped being used. Treat it as a living plan that the leadership team actually uses to say yes and no.

Vendor and platform selection

Choosing a CRM, ERP, cloud provider or development partner is a decision you will live with for years. We use weighted criteria agreed with stakeholders before demos begin, covering fit to process, integration options, total cost over several years, security posture, exit terms, local support and the vendor's financial stability. Scoring after the demos, not before, invites bias toward the best presenter.

Ask for references from customers of your size and request a small paid proof of concept for the riskiest requirement. Read the contract for data export rights, price escalators and termination terms. We are explicit about conflicts: if the recommendation involves a service Speqto sells, it is labeled, with independent alternatives alongside. Insist on that disclosure from every adviser you hire, not just us.

Operating model: who does what

Strategy fails in handover. Decide which work is done by an internal team, which by partners, how requests are prioritized, who owns each application and how budgets are controlled. Product-aligned teams usually work better than project teams for systems that evolve continuously, while shared platforms such as identity or data need a clear owner and service expectations. Funding models matter too: project budgets suit one-off change, while recurring product budgets suit systems that evolve continuously.

For many mid-sized companies a blended model works: a small internal group for architecture, security and vendor management, with delivery capacity from partners. We can provide that capacity through dedicated teams or IT outsourcing, and we design the governance so you retain control of priorities, spend and the repositories. Reviews every quarter keep the arrangement aligned with real needs as the business shifts.

What is included

What you get from the first week

Current-state assessment

Inventory of applications, infrastructure, data flows, contracts and skills, with candid findings on duplication, risk and spend that nobody is using.

Target architecture and roadmap

A phased plan linking technology initiatives to business outcomes, with owners, cost ranges, dependencies and the order that reduces risk soonest.

Vendor and platform selection

Weighted criteria, structured demos, reference checks and proof-of-concept design, ending with a clear recommendation and the contract points worth negotiating.

IT operating model design

Roles, decision rights, funding approach and service expectations for internal teams and partners, documented in a form people can follow.

Cloud and cost strategy

Hosting choices, commitment planning and governance to keep infrastructure and license spending aligned with how the business actually uses it.

AI adoption planning

A sober view of where AI can help your processes, which data and controls are needed first, and what to pilot before scaling.

How it runs

A typical engagement, step by step

Pick a stage to see what happens. Timings are typical, not promises.

FAQ

IT Strategy Consulting FAQs

Straight answers on cost, timelines, IP ownership, team setup and how we work. Cannot find yours? Ask a solutions architect directly.

What should an IT strategy include?

Business goals, an application and data inventory, target capabilities, a prioritized roadmap with costs and owners, security and resilience priorities, a build-versus-buy view, an operating model and a list of risks. Keep it brief and review it every quarter.

How do you choose between competing software vendors?

Agree weighted criteria with stakeholders before demos, then score each vendor on fit, integration, five-year cost, security, exit terms and support. Run a small proof of concept on the riskiest requirement and check references from similar-sized customers.

How long does IT strategy consulting take?

A focused engagement for a mid-sized organization is generally a matter of weeks, depending on how many systems and stakeholders are involved. We agree scope and deliverables at the start and share interim findings so you can steer.

Can you help us implement the strategy as well?

Yes, through dedicated teams, project delivery or outsourcing, if you want it. The strategy is written so any capable partner or your internal team can execute it, and we identify clearly where our own services appear in it.
