About hiring Chatbot engineers
Everything to know before you hire Chatbot talent
Speqto supplies chatbot developers who build assistants for support, sales and internal teams, using LLMs, retrieval and classic NLU where each fits. They connect bots to WhatsApp, web chat, Slack and your backend, and design clean handoff to people. This page is for product and support leaders evaluating who to hire.
What chatbot developers need to know in the LLM era
Large language models made it easy to produce a chatbot demo and hard to produce one you can trust. A strong chatbot developer understands prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation, tool calling, conversation memory and the failure modes that follow: invented answers, prompt injection, leaked context and drifting tone. They build evaluation sets of real questions and score answers before and after every change, instead of judging by a few lucky chats.
Older approaches still have a place. Intent-based NLU with Rasa, Dialogflow or Amazon Lex gives predictable behavior for narrow, regulated flows such as balance checks or appointment changes. Many production bots combine both: deterministic flows for transactions, an LLM with retrieval for open questions, and rules that decide which path a message takes. Choosing the mix is a core skill.
Channels, integrations and handoff
A bot lives where customers already are. Developers integrate with the WhatsApp Business Platform, Instagram, Messenger, Telegram, Slack, Microsoft Teams, website widgets and voice. Each channel has its own limits on message templates, session windows, buttons and media, so a flow designed for web chat often needs rework elsewhere. Understanding those rules early prevents rejected templates and broken launches. Channel-specific reviews happen before build starts.
Value comes from actions, not conversation alone: checking an order, booking a slot, raising a ticket in Zendesk, Freshdesk or ServiceNow, updating a CRM. Those calls need authentication, validation and safe failure. Handoff deserves equal care. The bot should pass context, summary and customer history to a human agent, know when to escalate, and make it easy to ask for a person instead of trapping users in loops.
Quality, privacy, vetting and engagement
Operating a bot is ongoing work. Developers set up logging with privacy controls, redact sensitive data, track containment, escalation and satisfaction, review failed conversations weekly and retrain or re-prompt where needed. Guardrails restrict topics, enforce tone, and limit what tools the model can invoke. Data retention and consent follow your policies and applicable privacy law, which your counsel confirms. Humans review a sample of conversations every single week.
Candidates are assessed on conversation design, an LLM and retrieval exercise, integration experience and how they test non-deterministic systems. You see profiles in about two business days. Engagements run as one developer, a pod with a conversation designer and QA, or a full build team, with weekly demos, full IP assignment, NDAs on request and 30 days notice to scale.
Why teams hire from Speqto
A bench, not a single freelancer
If an engineer is unavailable or the fit is wrong, a replacement comes from the same bench, with knowledge handed over.
Assistants grounded in your documents and systems, with retrieval tuning, citations, guardrails and evaluation sets that track answer quality over time.
Intent-based flow bots
Rasa, Dialogflow or Lex bots for structured, auditable journeys such as bookings, order status, onboarding and account queries.
WhatsApp and social channel bots
Integrations with WhatsApp Business, Instagram, Messenger and Telegram, including template approval, session rules and rich message formats. Includes opt-in tracking.
Web chat and in-app assistants
Embedded chat widgets and in-product helpers, with authentication, context from the user's current page and analytics hooks. Includes conversation transcripts.
Backend and CRM integration
Secure connections to ticketing, CRM, order and payment systems so the bot completes tasks rather than only answering questions.
Human handoff and analytics
Escalation rules, agent context transfer, conversation dashboards and review workflows that raise containment without hurting satisfaction. Includes review queues.

How to hire
Hire Chatbot talent in four steps
A short, low-risk path from your brief to a working engineer. If the first engineer is not right, we replace them.
1
Share your brief
Tell us the role, stack, hours overlap and how long you need the engineer. A 20-minute call is usually enough.
2
Get vetted profiles
In about two business days you receive candidates with assessment notes, code samples and availability.
3
Interview and trial
Speak to the engineers yourself. Start with a short paid trial and continue only if the fit is right.
4
Onboard and ship
Your engineer joins stand-ups and repositories, demos weekly and is backed by a delivery lead.

What do chatbot developers do differently from regular software developers?
They design conversations, handle ambiguous input, tune prompts and retrieval, and test non-deterministic behavior with evaluation sets. They also manage channel rules, privacy and handoff, which standard application development rarely covers. They also own ongoing tuning once the bot is live.
Should our chatbot use an LLM or traditional NLU?
Use an LLM with retrieval for open, knowledge-heavy questions, and deterministic flows for transactions that must behave predictably. Many bots combine both. A good developer starts from your riskiest conversations and picks the safest approach for each.
How do you stop a chatbot from making things up?
By grounding answers in approved content through retrieval, requiring citations, limiting scope with guardrails, refusing when confidence is low, and testing with evaluation sets. Reviewing real conversations every week catches issues no test suite predicted.
Can your developers build a WhatsApp chatbot?
Yes. That includes WhatsApp Business Platform setup, template approval, session windows, opt-in handling, interactive messages and handoff to agents. We also advise on which flows suit WhatsApp and which belong in your website or app.
