Ethereum Development

Ethereum development means writing code that other people can call, copy and attack, with money attached. Speqto builds Ethereum smart contracts, token systems and dApps for startups and enterprises, including deployments on layer-2 networks, with test coverage and documentation that make independent audits faster and cheaper.

Mainnet or layer 2: the first decision

Mainnet offers the strongest security and the deepest liquidity, but transaction costs can make consumer apps impractical. Rollups such as Arbitrum, Optimism, Base and zkSync Era cut fees sharply and inherit Ethereum's security to varying degrees, depending on their fraud proof or validity proof maturity and sequencer arrangements. Sequencer centralization and upgrade keys differ between rollups, so we review each candidate network's trust assumptions instead of treating all layer 2 options as equal.

Choose by user behavior. High-value, low-frequency settlement suits mainnet. Social, gaming and payments apps usually belong on a rollup. Since EIP-4844 introduced blobs, data costs for rollups have fallen, but withdrawal delays on optimistic rollups remain a user experience factor that needs explaining in the interface. Each contract ships with a specification written in plain language, covering roles, invariants and failure modes, which your auditors and your future engineers will both value.

How we write and test contracts

Contracts are written in Solidity with OpenZeppelin building blocks and tested in Foundry, using unit tests, fuzzing and invariant tests that state what must always hold, such as total supply equalling the sum of balances. Static analysis with Slither and fork tests against real mainnet state catch integration problems early. Where upgrades are unavoidable, we separate storage layout from logic, test every upgrade on a mainnet fork and rehearse the multisig signing procedure before it matters.

Upgradeability is a deliberate trade-off. Proxy patterns such as UUPS allow fixes but introduce admin risk, so we pair them with multisig control and time locks, or choose immutable contracts when the logic is small. Gas optimization comes after correctness, guided by profiling, not guesswork. Gas profiling guides optimization, and the result is usually a handful of changes, such as packing variables or avoiding repeated storage reads, rather than clever tricks that harm readability.

The parts around the contract

A working product needs an indexer, a reliable RPC setup with fallbacks, event handling that survives chain reorganisations, wallet connection via WalletConnect or wagmi and monitoring for abnormal contract activity. Off-chain signatures under EIP-712 and account abstraction under ERC-4337 improve usability. Reorg handling deserves attention for exchanges and payments: wait for sufficient confirmations, store block hashes and make event processing idempotent so a replayed block changes nothing.

Security work continues after deployment. We set up alerts through tools like OpenZeppelin Defender or custom scripts, document an incident playbook and keep pause functions where appropriate. Before mainnet we prepare audit packages and support an independent reviewer, then fix findings with regression tests. Monitoring is cheap compared with an incident. Alerts on large transfers, role changes, paused states and oracle deviations give your team a chance to act in minutes.

What we do

What our Ethereum Development team delivers

Specific work we do for clients, with the senior people who do it.

  • Smart contract development

Solidity contracts for tokens, vaults, marketplaces, staking and governance, each with a written specification and documented roles and failure modes.

  • dApp front ends

Next.js interfaces built with wagmi, viem and WalletConnect, with clear transaction states, readable errors and support for common wallets and smart accounts.

  • Layer-2 deployment

Network selection, bridge planning and contract adaptation for Arbitrum, Optimism, Base and other rollups, including fee modeling for your expected usage.

  • Testing and fuzzing

Foundry unit, fork, fuzz and invariant suites, plus Slither static analysis in continuous integration so regressions are caught on every pull request.

  • Indexing and backend

Subgraphs or event-driven services with RPC redundancy and reorg-safe data pipelines that feed your application, analytics and customer support tools.

  • Audit preparation

Specifications, threat model and clean code packages are prepared for independent security reviewers, then we fix findings and add regression tests.

Outcomes

What you can expect

Every engagement is tied to measurable business results, not just deliverables.

01

Lower exploit risk

Invariant testing, fuzzing and staged releases reduce the chance of costly logic errors reaching a contract that holds user funds.

02

Sensible fee design

Network choice and gas-aware contract design keep user costs acceptable, so people can afford to use the product regularly.

03

A maintainable codebase

Documented, tested contracts that another team or auditor can read, extend and maintain without depending on the original authors.

FAQ

Ethereum Development FAQs

Straight answers on cost, timelines, IP ownership, team setup and how we work. Cannot find yours? Ask a solutions architect directly.

Should I build on Ethereum mainnet or a layer 2?

Use mainnet for high-value settlement where security and liquidity outweigh fees. Use a layer 2 for frequent, low-value interactions. Many projects launch on a rollup and keep a mainnet anchor for assets of record. Many projects launch on a rollup first.

Do smart contracts need to be upgradeable?

Not always. Upgradeability allows bug fixes but adds trust in whoever holds the admin key. For simple, well-tested logic immutable contracts are often better; for evolving protocols, use proxies with multisig and time locks. Keep admin powers narrow and publicly documented either way.

How do you keep gas costs down?

By choosing efficient data layouts, minimizing storage writes, batching actions, using events instead of storage where possible and deploying on a rollup when fees matter. We measure with Foundry gas reports, not assumptions. Always measure with realistic usage, since user behavior changes the numbers.

What does an Ethereum audit involve?

An independent firm reviews the code, specification and tests, reports findings by severity and checks fixes. Good tests and clear documentation shorten the process. An audit lowers risk but never guarantees safety. Treat the audit as one control among several, alongside monitoring and caps.
