About hiring DevSecOps engineers
Everything to know before you hire DevSecOps talent
Speqto provides DevSecOps engineers who move security checks into the pipeline, so problems surface during a pull request rather than during an audit. This page is for CTOs, security leads and compliance owners who want to hire DevSecOps engineers and understand the skills, vetting and working model involved.
Shifting left does not mean asking developers to become security experts overnight. It means putting automated checks where developers already work: static analysis on pull requests, dependency scanning, secret detection in commits and container image scans before anything reaches a registry. A good DevSecOps engineer tunes these tools so findings are few, relevant and fixable. Developers get fast, actionable feedback.
Noise kills adoption. If a scanner reports hundreds of low-risk issues, people ignore all of them. Our engineers set severity thresholds, baseline existing debt, suppress false positives with documented reasons and block only what truly matters. They also explain findings to developers in plain language, with a suggested fix instead of a bare CVE number. The result is a pipeline people trust.
Scanning, secrets and supply chain controls
The toolbox usually includes SAST tools such as Semgrep or CodeQL, software composition analysis with Dependabot, Snyk or Trivy, secret scanning with Gitleaks, infrastructure scanning with Checkov or tfsec, and DAST such as OWASP ZAP against staging. Secrets belong in Vault or a cloud secret manager with rotation, not in environment files copied between laptops. Each control is introduced gradually so delivery speed holds up.
Supply chain risk now gets real attention. Expect signed container images, SBOM generation, pinned dependencies, protected branches, and provenance practices aligned to SLSA concepts. In Kubernetes, that extends to admission policies with Kyverno or OPA Gatekeeper, network policies and least-privilege service accounts. AI-assisted triage can group findings, but a human decides what ships. Findings are triaged by exploitability, not by raw severity score alone.
Compliance automation, vetting and engagement
Frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI DSS and HIPAA ask for evidence: who approved a change, what was tested, who has access. DevSecOps engineers can turn pipeline logs, access reviews and infrastructure state into repeatable evidence, reducing audit scramble. We do not claim your organization becomes certified; we help you produce proof your auditor can check. Ownership of each control stays with named people in your team.
Candidates are assessed on threat modeling, pipeline security design, a practical task finding and fixing vulnerabilities, and communication with developers. You receive profiles in about two business days. Engagements run in your tools with weekly demos, full IP assignment, NDAs on request, and 30 days notice to scale the team. Reviews are scheduled so controls do not decay after launch.
Why teams hire from Speqto
A bench, not a single freelancer
If an engineer is unavailable or the fit is wrong, a replacement comes from the same bench, with knowledge handed over.
SAST, SCA, secret detection and image scanning wired into pull requests and builds, with thresholds that block real risk and ignore noise.
Secrets management
Vault or cloud secret manager rollouts with rotation, short-lived credentials and removal of hard-coded keys from repositories and images.
Container and Kubernetes security
Hardened images, admission policies, network policies and runtime checks that keep clusters aligned with least-privilege principles. Includes image signing and non-root defaults.
Infrastructure scanning
Policy-as-code checks on Terraform and CloudFormation that catch open buckets, wide security groups and missing encryption before deployment.
Compliance evidence automation
Pipelines and dashboards that collect change approvals, access reviews and test results needed for SOC 2, ISO 27001 or PCI DSS audits.
Threat modeling and training
Workshops with product teams to identify abuse cases early, plus practical secure-coding guidance tied to your own stack.

How to hire
Hire DevSecOps talent in four steps
A short, low-risk path from your brief to a working engineer. If the first engineer is not right, we replace them.
1
Share your brief
Tell us the role, stack, hours overlap and how long you need the engineer. A 20-minute call is usually enough.
2
Get vetted profiles
In about two business days you receive candidates with assessment notes, code samples and availability.
3
Interview and trial
Speak to the engineers yourself. Start with a short paid trial and continue only if the fit is right.
4
Onboard and ship
Your engineer joins stand-ups and repositories, demos weekly and is backed by a delivery lead.
Included

What is the difference between DevOps and DevSecOps engineers?
DevOps engineers automate delivery and operations. DevSecOps engineers do that with security built in, owning scanning, secrets, policy and compliance evidence inside the pipeline. In small teams one person may cover both, though depth in security still matters.
Will security scanning slow down our pipeline?
It can if configured badly. We run fast checks on every pull request, heavier scans on a schedule or on merge, and cache results. The aim is quick feedback with deeper analysis running in parallel rather than blocking developers.
Can DevSecOps engineers help us prepare for SOC 2 or ISO 27001?
Yes, by building controls and automated evidence collection such as access reviews, change records and vulnerability reports. Certification itself comes from an independent auditor, and we do not claim otherwise, but good engineering makes the audit smoother.
How do you handle false positives from security tools?
We baseline existing findings, set severity thresholds, and suppress false positives only with a written reason and an expiry. Rules are tuned per language and framework, so developers see a short list of issues that deserve attention.
