About hiring Back-End engineers
Everything to know before you hire Back-End talent
Hire back-end developers who think about failure as carefully as features. Speqto engineers design APIs, data models, queues and integrations in Python, Java, Node.js, Go and .NET, and suit CTOs and product heads whose systems must stay correct, secure and affordable as users, data and partners multiply.
The back end is where money, identity and data live. Good engineers protect them with decisions users never see: transactions that do not leave half-finished state, idempotent endpoints that survive retries, authorization checks on every object and migrations that do not lock tables during business hours. These qualities are invisible when they work and very costly when they do not.
They also protect your future. Clear API contracts, versioning, structured logs, metrics and documented data models let new engineers and partner teams work safely. A back end that merely returns correct answers today but cannot be observed or changed tomorrow is a liability that grows with every release. Good engineers keep the design as simple as the problem allows, resisting extra layers and services until measurements or team structure justify them.
How we choose and vet back-end developers
We match language to your stack, then test the shared craft: relational modeling, indexes and query plans, caching strategy, REST and GraphQL design, pagination, rate limiting and consistency trade-offs. Candidates diagnose a slow endpoint, design a payment or order flow with retries, and explain how they would roll out a breaking change safely. We pay attention to how candidates discuss past outages, because engineers who can describe what went wrong and what changed afterwards usually build more resilient systems.
Security and operations are part of the screen, too. We cover authentication, OAuth flows, secrets management, OWASP risks, structured logging, tracing, container basics and incident habits. Candidates also review a pull request containing real-world mistakes, which shows how they communicate technical concerns with colleagues. Strong candidates also ask about data volumes, peak traffic and recovery targets before proposing designs, which keeps solutions proportionate to the real need.
How the engagement works
Share your language, scale and priorities, and we will send relevant profiles within about two business days. Developers work in your repositories and pipelines, and show working features in weekly demos instead of long reports. A typical first sprint covers environment setup, a review of architecture and data model, and a small production change, so you see quality and pace in real work.
Hire one engineer or a squad with QA and DevOps support. Changing team size needs 30 days notice. We sign NDAs on request, assign all IP to you, and permit AI coding assistants for boilerplate and tests, subject to human review on every change that ships. As the product grows, we can add specialists for data, security or platform work without changing how the team ships.
Why teams hire from Speqto
A bench, not a single freelancer
If an engineer is unavailable or the fit is wrong, a replacement comes from the same bench, with knowledge handed over.
REST, GraphQL or gRPC interfaces with consistent errors, pagination, versioning and generated documentation, designed for web, mobile and partner consumers.
Database design and tuning
Relational and document schemas with proper indexes, query optimization, safe migrations and backup strategies matched to your recovery needs.
Queues and background processing
Asynchronous workflows with Kafka, RabbitMQ or SQS, designed with retries, idempotency and dead-letter handling to keep data consistent.
Third-party integrations
Payment gateways, identity providers, ERPs and logistics APIs wired in with timeouts, reconciliation jobs and clear alerting on failures.
Scalability and caching
Load testing, read replicas, Redis caching and stateless design that raise capacity before bottlenecks reach customers. Capacity targets are tested before launch.
Security hardening
Authentication and authorization reviews, secrets handling, dependency scanning and fixes for common API vulnerabilities. Fixes are prioritized by real risk and effort.

How we vet
Five filters before you see a profile
You only interview engineers who have already cleared code review, a live problem-solving session and a communication check.

How to hire
Hire Back-End talent in four steps
A short, low-risk path from your brief to a working engineer. If the first engineer is not right, we replace them.
1
Share your brief
Tell us the role, stack, hours overlap and how long you need the engineer. A 20-minute call is usually enough.
2
Get vetted profiles
In about two business days you receive candidates with assessment notes, code samples and availability.
3
Interview and trial
Speak to the engineers yourself. Start with a short paid trial and continue only if the fit is right.
4
Onboard and ship
Your engineer joins stand-ups and repositories, demos weekly and is backed by a delivery lead.
Included

FAQ
Hire Back-End Developers FAQs
Straight answers on cost, timelines, IP ownership, team setup and how we work. Cannot find yours? Ask a solutions architect directly.
Choose based on the team you can hire and the problem. Python suits data-heavy products, Java and .NET suit large enterprise systems, Node.js suits shared-language teams and real-time features, and Go suits efficient services. Team familiarity usually outweighs micro-benchmarks.
How do you design an API that will last?
By treating it as a product: stable resource naming, explicit versioning, consistent errors, pagination, idempotency keys for writes and published specifications. Breaking changes follow a deprecation period, with consumers informed before anything is removed. Consumers get early notice.
Should we start with microservices?
Usually not. A well-structured modular monolith is cheaper to run and easier to change early on. Split services when teams or scaling needs demand it, and draw boundaries around business capabilities, not technical layers. We revisit the decision as the team grows.
Can you take over an existing back end from another vendor?
Yes. We start with an audit of code, data model, infrastructure and tests, stabilize the riskiest areas, document how it works and then plan changes in small releases so the business keeps running. Handover documents are written for your team.
