Fit check
Is Startup Technology Consulting right for you?
An honest view. If another model suits you better, we will tell you on the first call.
A good fit when
You face a technology decision with real money behind it
You lack senior technical leadership in-house
You want an independent view of architecture, cost or vendors
You need a plan your board and engineers can both follow
Think twice when
You already have a settled plan and only need hands
You want slide decks without follow-through
The decision has already been made elsewhere

About Startup Technology Consulting
How Startup Technology Consulting works in practice
Startup technology consulting helps early-stage founders make the technical decisions that are expensive to reverse: stack, architecture, build-versus-buy, hiring order and vendor selection. This page lists the questions we work through with founders, the mistakes we see most often, and how a short consulting engagement can save months of rework.
Decisions worth getting right early
Most early technical choices are cheap to change. A few are not: the primary database and data model, the tenancy approach for a multi-customer product, how identity and permissions work, and whether payments or regulated data are handled directly. We help founders separate these from the rest, spend thought where it matters and choose boring, well-supported tools everywhere else. Writing the reasons down helps you revisit them later.
Stack choice should follow hiring reality and product shape. A web-first SaaS with a mostly CRUD interface rarely needs microservices, and a mobile product with heavy offline use needs a different plan than a dashboard. We ask how many engineers you can realistically hire in your market, and pick a stack they can be found for. Stacks fashionable on social media but thin on available engineers are a recurring cause of slow, expensive hiring in the second year.
Common early-stage mistakes
We repeatedly see four patterns: building for scale before there are users, handing the whole product to a vendor without owning the repository, hiring a senior engineer too early or too late, and skipping basic security and backup practice until the first incident. Each is avoidable with a short checklist and an honest conversation about runway. Spending a day on these topics early is far cheaper than the weeks they cost later.
Another trap is treating AI as a feature rather than a cost and risk decision. Calling a hosted model from an app is easy, but prompts, data handling, evaluation and per-request costs need a plan. We help you decide whether an AI feature is core to the product, and how to test it before committing engineering time. Costs per request, latency, privacy of user data and a fallback when the model is wrong all belong in the plan from the beginning.
How a consulting engagement works
Most founders start with a short workshop-based engagement: a few sessions covering goals, users, constraints and budget, followed by a written recommendation with architecture sketches, a phased plan, a hiring or vendor path and the main risks. It is intentionally lightweight, and suits teams that have not yet written code as well as those inheriting a prototype. Founders keep every document we produce, and nothing in the plan binds you to Speqto.
From there you can take the plan to any team. If you want Speqto to build, we can move into an MVP engagement with NDAs on request and full IP assignment. If you want fractional leadership, CTO as a service continues the relationship. If you prefer to hire in-house, the plan doubles as your hiring brief. Fees are agreed per engagement, and the scope is deliberately short so you are not paying for advice you cannot yet use.
What is included
What you get from the first week
Founder technical workshops
Structured sessions on goals, users, constraints and budget that turn an idea into a clear set of technical questions and options.
Architecture and stack recommendation
A written proposal covering data model, tenancy, identity, hosting and tooling, with the reasoning and trade-offs behind each choice.
Build, buy or integrate review
We assess existing platforms and APIs against custom development, so you build only the parts that truly differentiate your product from competitors.
Hiring and vendor roadmap
Advice on when to hire, which roles to fill first, and how to evaluate agencies, freelancers or an offshore team for your stage.
Prototype code review
An honest review of an existing prototype or agency-built codebase, covering structure, security basics, tests and what is worth keeping.
AI feature feasibility
A practical assessment of where AI genuinely helps your product, expected costs, data needs and how to evaluate quality before building.
How it runs

They help founders make early technical decisions: stack, architecture, security basics, build versus buy, hiring order and vendor selection. The output is usually a written plan and a sounding board during execution, not code, although some consultants also build.
Do I need technology consulting before building an MVP?
If you are non-technical, or if the product touches payments, regulated data or complex integrations, a short consulting phase usually pays for itself. For a simple product with a technical founder it may well be unnecessary.
How is startup consulting different from a discovery phase?
Consulting focuses on technical strategy and decisions for the company. A discovery phase concentrates on one product: user research, prototypes and estimates. They overlap, and many founders do a light version of both before commissioning development.
Can you review a prototype built by another agency?
Yes. We read the code, check structure, tests, security basics and deployment, and report what to keep, fix or rebuild. The review is independent, and you can use it with the original agency or any new team.
