About hiring Cloud engineers
Everything to know before you hire Cloud talent
Speqto supplies cloud developers who design and build cloud-native applications across AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, choosing managed services carefully and keeping security and cost visible. This page is for CTOs and engineering leads who want to hire cloud developers and need help deciding which cloud skills their product really needs.
Cloud-native does not mean running the same server in someone else's data center. It means designing for elasticity, failure and managed services: stateless application tiers, externalised configuration, queues between components, retries with backoff, idempotent operations and health checks. A cloud developer should be able to explain what happens to your system when an instance, a zone or a dependency disappears, and design so that users barely notice.
They also resist unnecessary complexity. Managed databases, queues, object storage and identity services remove work, but each adds cost, limits and lock-in. Good developers weigh these trade-offs openly. Sometimes a single container service and a managed Postgres are the right answer, and a fleet of microservices on Kubernetes would be an expensive way to feel modern. Simplicity is a feature worth defending.
Multi-cloud, portability and platform choice
Most organizations should pick one primary cloud and know it well. Multi-cloud is justified by regulation, acquisition, customer requirements or specific services, not by a vague wish to avoid lock-in. Portability has a price. Containers, Terraform, OpenTelemetry and standard databases lower switching costs; proprietary event buses and serverless glue raise them. A sensible developer shows which choices are easy to reverse.
Our developers work across the major platforms: Lambda, ECS, DynamoDB and S3 on AWS; App Service, Functions and Cosmos DB on Azure; Cloud Run, BigQuery and GKE on Google Cloud. They map equivalent services between clouds, which helps if you inherit another team's environment or plan a migration. AI services such as Bedrock, Azure OpenAI and Vertex AI are used where they fit the product.
Security, cost, vetting and engagement
Shared responsibility is easy to misunderstand. The provider secures the platform, while identity, network exposure, data protection and configuration remain yours. Developers apply least-privilege roles, private networking, encryption, secret management and logging, and use infrastructure as code so security settings are reviewed like application changes. Cost allocation tags and budgets are set early, with alerts on unusual spend. Findings are reviewed with your team.
Candidates are assessed on architecture reasoning, a hands-on build and deploy exercise, failure scenario discussion and security fundamentals. Certifications help but never replace real examples. Profiles arrive in about two business days. Engagements can be a single developer, a platform pod or a mixed team with DevOps and QA, with weekly demos, full IP assignment, NDAs on request and 30 days notice to scale.
Why teams hire from Speqto
A bench, not a single freelancer
If an engineer is unavailable or the fit is wrong, a replacement comes from the same bench, with knowledge handed over.
Stateless, resilient services on managed compute, databases and queues, with health checks, retries and autoscaling designed in. Includes load tests before launch.
Serverless and event-driven systems
Functions, queues and event buses for spiky or asynchronous workloads, with attention to cold starts, limits and observability.
Container platform development
Docker-based services on ECS, App Service, Cloud Run or Kubernetes, with registries, pipelines and zero-downtime deployments. Includes image scanning.
Cloud migration and replatforming
Assessment and staged moves of applications and data to the cloud, choosing rehost, replatform or refactor per workload.
Infrastructure as code
Terraform, Pulumi or native templates that make environments repeatable, reviewed and easy to recreate after incidents. Includes reviewed pipelines.
Cost and security reviews
Audits of IAM, networking, encryption, logging and spend, with ranked recommendations and clear owners for each fix. Includes quick wins first.

How to hire
Hire Cloud talent in four steps
A short, low-risk path from your brief to a working engineer. If the first engineer is not right, we replace them.
1
Share your brief
Tell us the role, stack, hours overlap and how long you need the engineer. A 20-minute call is usually enough.
2
Get vetted profiles
In about two business days you receive candidates with assessment notes, code samples and availability.
3
Interview and trial
Speak to the engineers yourself. Start with a short paid trial and continue only if the fit is right.
4
Onboard and ship
Your engineer joins stand-ups and repositories, demos weekly and is backed by a delivery lead.
Included
Every engineer comes with
No hidden extras: the basics of a safe, managed engagement are part of the package.

Which cloud should we choose: AWS, Azure or Google Cloud?
Pick based on existing ecosystems, team skills, required services and pricing. Azure suits Microsoft-heavy organizations, AWS has the broadest catalog, and Google Cloud is strong in data and Kubernetes. We compare options against your workload before recommending.
Do we need a multi-cloud strategy?
Usually not. Multi-cloud adds operational burden and is justified mainly by regulation, mergers or specific services. A better default is one primary cloud, portable tooling such as containers and Terraform, and clear exit points for critical data.
What is the difference between cloud developers and DevOps engineers?
Cloud developers design and build applications that use cloud services. DevOps engineers focus on pipelines, infrastructure operations and reliability. Skills overlap, and small teams often combine them, but larger products benefit from both viewpoints. Both matter to uptime.
Can your cloud developers migrate our existing application?
Yes. We assess dependencies and data, choose a strategy per workload, set up networking and security, and migrate in stages with rollback plans. Databases and integrations are rehearsed first because they carry the most risk.
