About hiring Java engineers
Everything to know before you hire Java talent
Hire Java developers when your system has to be correct, observable and maintainable for years. Speqto engineers build Spring Boot services, microservice platforms and enterprise integrations, and also modernize aging monoliths, for CTOs and product heads who value stability over novelty and want steady weekly delivery.
Java earns its place where systems are large, long-lived and shared by many teams. The JVM is mature, the tooling for profiling and debugging is excellent, and the hiring pool is deep. Banks, insurers, logistics firms and large marketplaces run core workloads on it for good reasons, not inertia. That longevity also means plenty of mature libraries for security, messaging, batch processing and observability, so teams spend time on business rules rather than plumbing.
Modern Java is also less verbose than its reputation suggests. Records, sealed types, pattern matching and virtual threads in recent LTS releases make code shorter and concurrency simpler. A strong developer will use these features and know which parts of your codebase are not yet ready for them. The practical advice is to upgrade deliberately: move to a current long-term support release, then adopt new language features in new code first while older modules stay stable.
What we look for when vetting
We examine fundamentals before frameworks: memory model, garbage collection behavior, concurrency utilities, and how to read a thread dump. Then Spring Boot depth, including transaction boundaries, JPA and Hibernate pitfalls such as lazy loading and N+1 queries, and configuring security properly instead of copying snippets. We also ask how they would debug a service that slows down only under production load, because the answer shows whether they can reason from metrics, heap data and logs.
For microservice roles we cover messaging with Kafka or RabbitMQ, idempotent consumers, resilience patterns such as circuit breakers and timeouts, and contract testing. Candidates complete a live exercise and a code review, so you meet people who can explain trade-offs, not recite annotations. Good Java developers care about boring things, like naming, small classes and meaningful logs, because those habits decide how painful the system is for the next person to read.
How the engagement works
Share your stack, release process and team structure, and we send matching profiles within about two business days. Developers work in your repositories and pipelines, join standups and present working builds in weekly demos, so you spot misalignment early. A typical first sprint covers repository access, a local build that works on the first try, a small production change and a short written assessment of risk areas.
You can add one senior engineer to an existing team or assemble a squad with QA and DevOps support. We need 30 days notice to scale a team up or down. NDAs are available on request, all IP is assigned to you, and AI coding assistants help with tests and boilerplate under human review. That rhythm gives you early evidence of code quality and communication before you commit to a larger team.
Why teams hire from Speqto
A bench, not a single freelancer
If an engineer is unavailable or the fit is wrong, a replacement comes from the same bench, with knowledge handed over.
REST and gRPC services with Spring Boot, clean layering, sensible transaction handling and test suites that run in your continuous integration pipeline.
Microservices architecture
Service boundaries, messaging with Kafka or RabbitMQ, resilience patterns and distributed tracing, designed so teams can deploy independently without breaking each other.
Enterprise integration
Connecting ERPs, payment gateways, SOAP legacy systems and message queues using Spring Integration, REST adapters and carefully versioned contracts.
Performance tuning
Profiling with JFR and similar tools, fixing slow queries, tuning garbage collection and connection pools, and load testing before release.
Monolith modernization
Upgrading old Java versions, extracting services gradually with a strangler approach and adding tests before changing risky code.
Cloud-native deployment
Containerizing services, configuring Kubernetes probes and resources, and shipping through automated pipelines with health checks and rollbacks. Rollbacks are rehearsed before the first production release.

How we vet
Five filters before you see a profile
You only interview engineers who have already cleared code review, a live problem-solving session and a communication check.

How to hire
Hire Java talent in four steps
A short, low-risk path from your brief to a working engineer. If the first engineer is not right, we replace them.
1
Share your brief
Tell us the role, stack, hours overlap and how long you need the engineer. A 20-minute call is usually enough.
2
Get vetted profiles
In about two business days you receive candidates with assessment notes, code samples and availability.
3
Interview and trial
Speak to the engineers yourself. Start with a short paid trial and continue only if the fit is right.
4
Onboard and ship
Your engineer joins stand-ups and repositories, demos weekly and is backed by a delivery lead.

FAQ
Hire Java Developers FAQs
Straight answers on cost, timelines, IP ownership, team setup and how we work. Cannot find yours? Ask a solutions architect directly.
Yes, especially for transactional systems, large teams and long-lived platforms. Recent releases reduced boilerplate and improved concurrency, and the ecosystem for security, observability and data access is very mature. For small prototypes, lighter stacks may be faster to start.
Should we use microservices or a modular monolith?
Start with a modular monolith unless several teams must deploy independently or parts of the system scale very differently. Microservices add network failures, versioning and operations cost. Our Java developers can help you draw boundaries so a later split is cheap.
Can your developers work on our legacy Java 8 application?
Yes. They typically add tests around critical paths first, upgrade to a supported LTS version in steps, replace deprecated libraries, and then extract components where it pays off. We avoid rewriting everything at once. Estimates come after that assessment, not before.
How do you handle knowledge transfer if a developer leaves?
We give notice, overlap a replacement with the outgoing engineer, and insist on documented decisions, runbooks and clean pull requests. Because the code lives in your repositories, nothing important depends on one person. We also keep decision logs in your repository.
