About hiring AWS engineers
Everything to know before you hire AWS talent
Speqto supplies AWS developers who design, build and run workloads on Lambda, ECS, EKS and the managed services around them, with infrastructure as code and cost visibility from day one. This page is for CTOs and engineering leads who want to hire AWS developers and know what good looks like before the first interview.
An AWS developer is more than someone who can click through the console. Look for fluency in IAM design, VPC layout, security groups and how services talk to each other privately. They should reason about failure: what happens when a Lambda times out, a queue backs up or an availability zone disappears. Account structure with AWS Organizations and separate environments matters early.
On the application side, expect comfort with API Gateway, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS or Aurora, S3, SQS, SNS, EventBridge and Step Functions, and the judgment to know when a plain container on ECS Fargate is simpler than a function. Good engineers say no to services you do not need, which keeps both complexity and the bill smaller. That restraint is a sign of experience.
Serverless, containers and infrastructure as code
Serverless suits spiky, event-driven workloads, but cold starts, concurrency limits, connection pooling to relational databases and local testing are real constraints. Containers on ECS or EKS suit steady services, long-running jobs and teams that already think in Kubernetes. Our engineers weigh these options per workload, not per fashion, and document the reasoning for your team. We document the reasoning so your team can revisit it later.
Everything should be reproducible. We work with Terraform, AWS CDK or CloudFormation, with modules, remote state, pull-request reviews and automated plans. Pipelines on CodePipeline, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI deploy through least-privilege roles, ideally with short-lived credentials via OIDC instead of long-lived access keys that end up in a repository. Credentials are rotated and scoped, and nothing is shared between environments.
Cost control, security and how we engage
Cloud bills grow quietly. Our AWS developers tag resources from the beginning, set budgets and anomaly alerts in Cost Explorer, right-size instances, use Savings Plans where usage is steady, and watch the usual offenders: NAT gateway traffic, idle load balancers, oversized databases and unbounded log retention. They explain each saving in terms your finance team can follow. Each fix is tracked against your invoice so savings are visible.
Candidates are assessed through architecture discussion, a hands-on infrastructure task and a security review exercise. You see profiles in about two business days, interview them directly, and work in your accounts with weekly demos, full IP assignment, NDAs on request and 30 days notice to scale. AI-assisted tooling helps with drafting IaC and reviewing diffs, always checked by an engineer.
Why teams hire from Speqto
A bench, not a single freelancer
If an engineer is unavailable or the fit is wrong, a replacement comes from the same bench, with knowledge handed over.
Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB and Step Functions architectures with sensible concurrency, observability and local testing set up from the start.
EKS and ECS platforms
Container platforms with autoscaling, ingress, secrets handling and deployment pipelines for services that need steady capacity. Includes ingress, node scaling and rolling updates.
Infrastructure as code
Terraform, CDK or CloudFormation codebases with modules, state management and reviewed pipelines so environments are repeatable. Includes remote state, versioned modules and drift detection.
Cloud migration to AWS
Assessment, landing zone design and staged moves of applications and databases using rehost, replatform or refactor patterns as appropriate.
Cost optimization
Tagging, budgets, right-sizing, storage lifecycle rules and commitment planning, with changes explained and tracked against your bill. Findings are ranked by saving and effort.
Security and observability
IAM reviews, GuardDuty and Security Hub setup, CloudWatch and OpenTelemetry tracing, and runbooks for common incidents. Alarms point at user impact rather than raw metrics.

How to hire
Hire AWS talent in four steps
A short, low-risk path from your brief to a working engineer. If the first engineer is not right, we replace them.
1
Share your brief
Tell us the role, stack, hours overlap and how long you need the engineer. A 20-minute call is usually enough.
2
Get vetted profiles
In about two business days you receive candidates with assessment notes, code samples and availability.
3
Interview and trial
Speak to the engineers yourself. Start with a short paid trial and continue only if the fit is right.
4
Onboard and ship
Your engineer joins stand-ups and repositories, demos weekly and is backed by a delivery lead.

FAQ
Hire AWS Developers FAQs
Straight answers on cost, timelines, IP ownership, team setup and how we work. Cannot find yours? Ask a solutions architect directly.
What should I look for when I hire AWS developers?
Look for IAM and networking depth, infrastructure as code habits, and the judgment to pick the simplest service that works. Ask them to walk through a past failure and how they fixed it. Certifications help, but design reasoning matters more.
Is serverless always cheaper than containers on AWS?
No. Lambda is cost-effective for spiky or low-volume workloads, but steady high traffic can cost less on Fargate or EC2. Data transfer and NAT charges often dominate either way. A good developer models both before committing.
Can your AWS developers work inside our existing account setup?
Yes. They can work in your accounts, follow your tagging and IAM conventions, and improve them where needed. For new setups they can propose a multi-account structure with separate environments and guardrails through Organizations and service control policies.
How do you keep AWS costs under control during a project?
We tag resources, set budgets and anomaly alerts early, review Cost Explorer with you regularly, and flag expensive patterns such as cross-zone traffic or oversized databases. Optimization is part of delivery, not a separate clean-up phase at the end.
